Siriroj Hospital — Best Value with International Standards
Siriroj Hospital on Yaowarat Road in Phuket Town is a private hospital but charges significantly less than Bangkok Hospital. Their laboratory is well-equipped and handles routine panels quickly. Crucially, Siriroj often allows walk-in blood draws for standard panels at their lab reception without requiring a doctor consultation — saving you ฿800–฿1,500 right there.
This is my personal go-to for routine checks. The lab is on the ground floor, English-speaking staff at reception, and results come via the hospital app or a printed report you collect at the lab counter.
Vachira Hospital — Affordable Government Option
Vachira Hospital on Yaowarat Road is a government hospital — which means it's affordable and always busy. Blood tests here cost a fraction of private hospital rates (CBC for ฿150–฿200, basic metabolic for under ฿800). The trade-off: queues are real, English language service is limited, and result turnaround can be next-day rather than same-day.
For expats with no insurance and a tight budget, Vachira is entirely viable for routine tests. For urgent or specialist panels, go private.

Walk-In at Siriroj
Arrive fasting (if required), go directly to the lab reception on the ground floor, and explain what tests you need. For standard panels, reception staff can process you without a prior doctor appointment. You'll pay upfront (cash or card), receive a number, and wait in the lab waiting area. Results usually ready in 2–4 hours — collect at the same counter or receive via the Siriroj app.
At Vachira Hospital
Head to the outpatient department, register as an outpatient (you'll need your passport), and queue for a doctor consultation. The doctor orders tests and you proceed to the lab. Expect queues of 30–90 minutes in peak morning hours. Bring something to read and arrive early (7:30–8:00am for shortest queues).
Practical Tip: Fasting for Blood Tests
If your test requires fasting, book a morning appointment (7:30–9:30am). You can have water — in fact, being well-hydrated makes the blood draw easier and faster. Arrive with a small snack for immediately after, especially in Phuket's heat. Fainting after a fasted blood draw in tropical temperatures is more common than you'd think.
Understanding Results: English vs Thai
Bangkok Hospital results come printed in English with reference ranges clearly marked. Most other Phuket hospitals print results in both Thai and English, though some older printouts from Vachira may be mostly in Thai script.
