About BISP — British International School Phuket
BISP is located on a large campus in Koh Kaew, about 15 minutes north of Phuket Town and convenient to Bang Tao, Laguna, and Surin. It's accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and offers a British-influenced curriculum from Early Years through to IB Diploma at Sixth Form. The school has around 1,400 students from over 50 nationalities.
The campus is genuinely impressive — 35 acres with sports facilities including a 25m swimming pool, football pitches, tennis courts, and a performing arts centre. This is the kind of school where the physical environment matters and where children thrive if they're sporty and social.
Curriculum
BISP follows the British National Curriculum in primary years, transitions to IGCSE at secondary level, and offers the IB Diploma Programme at Sixth Form (Years 12 and 13). This pathway is well-regarded internationally and opens doors to universities in the UK, US, Australia, and across Europe.
The school also offers A-Levels as an alternative to IB for Sixth Form — useful for families planning to return to the UK for university and wanting a familiar qualification pathway.
Phuket's international school scene has shifted towards IB in recent years, and BISP's dual IB/A-Level Sixth Form offering is a genuine differentiator. The IB results are competitive — recent cohorts have averaged 33–35 points against a global average of 30.
Fees
BISP fees are at the top end of Phuket's international school market. Fees are published annually and increase each year. For 2025–2026:
BISP Tuition Fees (2025–2026, indicative)
These figures are indicative — confirm directly with BISP admissions as fees change annually. The capital levy is paid on entry and is partially refundable on departure. Additional costs: uniforms, school trips, sports teams, and after-school activities add up to 30,000–80,000 THB per year depending on participation.
Admissions
BISP is selective but not fiercely competitive at primary level — most children with reasonable English are admitted. Secondary entry is more competitive, particularly mid-year. The admissions process involves an application form, school reports, and an assessment day for older children.
The school's own language of instruction is English, and some English proficiency is expected. The school has an EAL (English as an Additional Language) programme for children not yet at native-speaker level, at additional cost.
Apply at least 3–6 months in advance for September (Term 1) start. Mid-year places exist but availability depends on year group. The school holds open days twice a year — worth attending to meet current parents and see the campus.
Who BISP Suits (and Who It Doesn't)
BISP is well-suited to families planning a 2–5 year assignment in Phuket who want a school with strong UK university pathways, excellent sports facilities, and a large international community. British families particularly appreciate the curriculum familiarity. It's also popular with Scandinavians, Australians, and families from the Middle East.
It may not be the best fit for families who want a smaller, more intimate school environment, or those on tighter budgets. And if you have a child who is more academic than sporty, UWC Thailand (in Phuket) or HeadStart offer different atmospheres worth exploring.
BISP operates its own school bus network covering most expat residential areas including Bang Tao, Laguna, Surin, Cherng Talay, and Kamala. Bus fees are additional. If you live in Rawai or south Phuket, the commute to Koh Kaew is significant — factor this in when choosing your area.
Comparing BISP to Other Phuket International Schools
Phuket's main international school options are BISP, UWC Thailand (formerly Phuket International Academy), and HeadStart International School. Each has a distinct character. BISP is the largest and most British. UWC has a stronger IB focus and a more globally-minded culture. HeadStart is smaller, more intimate, and often seen as better value.
